Pre-Operative Instructions.

How to prepare for your procedure at Kapital — in the days before, the night before, and the morning of your surgery. Following these steps closely protects your safety and your results.

Please read these guidelines carefully. They are general instructions for cosmetic surgery; your surgical team may give you additional, personalized directions that always take priority. If anything is unclear, call us before your appointment.

Before your surgery

  • Do not eat solid food for the 8 hours before surgery, unless your surgical team has told you otherwise.
  • Do not drink any liquids for 3 hours before surgery.
  • Do not drink alcohol in the days leading up to your procedure.
  • Do not smoke or use nicotine products, following the timeline your surgeon gives you.
  • Stop aspirin, ibuprofen (Advil/Motrin), naproxen (Aleve) and other medications or supplements that can increase bleeding, unless your surgeon has approved them.
  • Tell your surgical team about every medication, vitamin, supplement and any diabetes or weight-loss injection you use.
  • If you develop a fever, infection, cough, difficulty breathing, chest pain, vomiting, diarrhea or any new illness, call us before your surgery.

The night before

  • Shower with an antiseptic soap the day before your surgery and again the same day, before coming in.
  • Do not shave the surgical area unless your surgeon specifically asks you to.
  • Your nails must be completely free of polish (fingers and toes) — remove any polish, gel or acrylics before surgery.
  • Remove jewelry, piercings and any metal objects.
  • Set out clean, loose, comfortable clothing that is easy to put on and take off.
  • Get a full night's rest and have your ID and any requested documents ready.

The day of surgery

  • Arrive at the exact time your surgical coordinator gave you.
  • Do not wear makeup, cream, lotion or perfume, unless your team authorizes it.
  • Leave valuables at home.
  • Take only the medications your surgeon or anesthesiologist specifically approved, with a small sip of water.
  • You must have a responsible adult available to drive you home after anesthesia or sedation.
  • Arrange help at home for the first hours and days after your procedure.
